Seven Random Things
December 12, 2007 at 2:14 am | In memes | Leave a CommentI’m terribly behind on my memes. Several of you have tagged me in the last six or eight months and I’ve not been terribly timely in my playing along. I blame global warming…
I’m kidding, folks.
Anyway, I’m attempting to catch up a bit here. Scout tagged me to play along in the seven random things about yourself meme. The rules are as follows:
Rules for the game include:
1) Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2) Share 7 facts about yourself.
3) Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4) Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
Here we go…
1. Christmas Vacation is, by far, the greatest Christmas movie EVER made. Seriously. I’ve seen it every year since it came out in theaters and could probably recite most of it verbatim of you, if you want. Not that I’m sure anyone really wants this to happen, mind you. It tends to not break the ice at holiday gatherings.
2. I had my Christmas shopping done before the calendar turned over to December this year.
3. My favorite Christmas cookies are fruitcake cookies.
4. I’m really into Journeyman right now. May be the best new show of the fall and it’s probably gone after next week. At least they’ll get to wrap it up.
5. I’m wary about the upcoming season of Doctor Who. This is the first time since the show came back that I’ve felt like this. Dear heavens, am I becoming the bitter, cynical Doctor Who fan?!?
6. I love Sixpence None the Richer’s cover of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” I could listen to it on repeat for hours at time.
7. I’m psyched about UT’s men basketball season….I mean, it’s close to the levels of excitement and joy I have about football season.
So, I’m supposed to tag seven people to play along. However, since I’ve taken so long to get around to it, I’ll leave it up to any of you who want to play along.
Getting to know the real Big Orange Michael
November 9, 2007 at 1:36 am | In memes | Leave a CommentMy good friend Tish started a new meme. I like it, so I thought I’d jump in.
Bloggers tend to be very honest, spilling their deepest thoughts into the blogosphere without a moment’s hesitation. It is that openness that allows us to feel that we really know the people behind the blogs. But what if we could get to know them even better? You’ve read the bloggers’ words. Now read what the people closest to them have to say.
Please take a moment to tell my readers about the real me – the Tish that many of them know only from my own words. Do you have a memory to share? A story to tell? Thoughts to pass on? If so, please leave a comment.
I challenge all of my readers to tackle this assignment. I would love to get to know you better. If you do choose to participate, please let me know, as I would love to leave my thoughts about you on your post!
Now, how about telling my readers all about me?
The face behind the blog
August 15, 2007 at 1:14 am | In memes | Leave a CommentThe other day Tish tagged me to take part in the Face Behind the Blog Meme.
Here’s the “rules.”
1. Post a short blog article that includes a photograph (or a series of photos) showing the face behind your blog. If you already show a photo somewhere on your site, then make your post more interesting by choosing a photo that’s not currently online.
2. Include links to other people who have displayed a photo.
3. Link back to the original post.
4. Tag as many others as you like.
So, here we go…
Both of these are fairly recent photos of me and they were both taken by my favorite nephew. He’s a pretty good photographer, don’t you think? (Well, he has a lot of help from people around him…)
So, let me see…who do I want to tag?
I’m going to go with: Logtar, Chuck, Becky, Katie, Sarah Ashlee, Teresa, and Karen R.
TV Tuesday">TV Tuesday
June 29, 2004 at 10:00 am | In TV Tuesday, meme, memes | Leave a CommentCompanies pay billions and billions of dollars each year to drop commercials into our favorite programs in hopes of influencing our shopping habits, getting us to buy things, and toot their own horns. As long as people still have money to spend they'll keep giving us ideas on how to spend it. So this week let's take a closer look at the entity we call commercials.
1. Commercials: Annoying disruption or Interesting Advertisement?
For the most part, annoying distruption. There are a few exceptions, such as the ads during the Super Bowl. Also, I hate to admit it, but a few months ago, I was more excited about the long preview for Spider-Man 2 than I was the new episode of The Apprentice it aired during.
2. Is there a commercial that instantly has you reaching for the remote to mute it?
In Augusta, one of the local car dealers had the WORST commercial. It was this guy singing "Toyota's…are cheaper..in North Augusta!" over and over again with a huge bass and heavy guitar going on the whole time. It was AWFUL. Even worse was the fact that some of the commericals featured the guy singing the song and it tried to make it look like a music video. My description of it here is not doing justice to how BAD it is. And the worst part–it aired all the time! You couldn't avoid it. And believe me, I tried!
3. Jingles are one of the most useful tools in commercials, what's your favorite (or least favorite if you prefer)?
I still like "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke."
~Bonus~ Has a commercial actually ever influenced something you've done or bought?
Yes, they actually have. A couple of years ago, I saw an ad for a toy that I had to immediately go out and buy Gracelyn for Christmas. I even e-mailed friends and family, claiming this particular toy–I think it was the Winnie the Pooh that holds a rattle and has an remote control rattle that activates it when the child shakes it–as the big present that Gracelyn was getting from her Uncle Michael.
